Content audit and writing services

Make sure your content is in line with your business needs, user needs and government standards. Salsa will audit your content, update existing content and write new content, following online writing best practice and your branding and editorial style.

Content audit and writing overview

A content audit will review existing content and provide recommendations to:

  • Keep content as is

  • Delete content (if it’s no longer relevant)

  • Update content

  • Write new content

A content review will also look at how content is structured, the information architecture (IA), and whether it’s been written for the unique online medium and meets government editorial standards.

Content that’s well-structured, written for the online medium and written to government standards will increase your site’s usability and provide a better citizen experience.

Engagement process

Salsa follows the engagement process below:

  1. Review questionnaire or brief: Agency to complete a light questionnaire (or send Salsa a high level project brief) reflecting basic requirements and/or project key business drivers.

  2. Intake and alignment: Salsa conducts a free 30-45 minute intake phone call to align on scope, expectations and overall engagement requirements based on the questionnaire or brief.

  3. Discovery: Workshop to meet stakeholders, identify website's target audience and user needs, define IA mapping, establish brand/voice/editorial style requirements, and establish content workflow process.

  4. Finalise IA: If optionally updating IA, conduct discovery and/or additional workshops to narrow top level or detailed IA structure. See additional options below.

  5. Align: Align on content audit and agree on content audit recommendations.

  6. Write/edit: Write new content and edit existing content based on IA.

  7. Review and sign-off: Review new content and make any necessary changes, then sign-off content.

  8. Migrate or load: Migrate existing content and load new content into the new IA and target website.

  9. UAT: Review new content via user acceptance testing (UAT) for final sign-off.

  10. Publish: Publish content live to your website.

Outputs

  1. Content review and audit — audit report

  2. Content strategy — suggested content strategy

  3. Updated IA (optional) — new IA to streamline the user experience

  4. New content — some updated and some written from scratch

Outcomes

  • Updated content that’s been written for the unique online medium to increase usability

  • Updated content that meets your editorial style guide and reflects your brand/voice

  • Content with readability levels in line with the Australian Government Content Guide (which recommends aiming to write for a 9yro), and WCAG (which recommends readability aimed at 12-14yros)

Assumptions

  1. All content is publicly accessible

  2. IA is established before rewriting begins — additional pages can only be added as child pages in the IA

  3. One page is average 300 words per page + /- 50 words

  4. Travel and lodging costs are additional for onsite discovery and/or other workshops
